A day in the life of a student at TNIS
What kind of experience can you expect for your child when you choose Takapuna Normal Intermediate School?
Don’t take our word for it when you can hear the following words our students use to describe our staff; “inspirational, caring, thoughtful, cheerful, humorous” and “awesome!”One student said of one teacher “She always encourages us to have a go.”
In our view, technology is just a fact of life that everyone has to understand how to use. Therefore we actively embrace it’s use at TNIS We make a deliberate effort to ensure that children and teachers can take advantage of technology in their teaching and learning.
We have 34 different nationalities at Takapuna Normal Intermediate School. Students come from all around the world to learn and experience New Zealand culture. For many it is a wonderful experience and creates lifelong friendships and memories.
New Zealand is the place where most people of the world want to live because it is clean, unspoiled and offers a lifestyle with all of the technology of the 21st century. Nearby islands like Motutapu and Waiheke provide great opportunities for overnight camping trips.
In terms of extra curricula activities 95% of students are doing at least one extra curricular activity and many students are doing two or more. This has resulted in some exceptional achievements across academic, sporting and cultural pursuits. Just one example? A TNIS team came second in the world in a global literature competition.
On the academic front, the staff at TNIS has been challenged with bringing three different educational strands together into a single coherent and interesting academic programme. These are the New Zealand Curriculum, the National Standards compliance obligations, and our commitments to the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme.
