School Whakatauki
Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, he toa takitini
My strength is not as an individual but as a collective
We chose this whakatauki to symbolise the mahi we do together as a school and how as a collective, we can achieve great things.
School Karakia
Each morning in our classrooms, our whole school assemblies and our staff meetings we say the karakia together. This is a time to look forward to the day for it to be successful. It is also a time for togetherness and whanaungatanga.

Māori name of the school
With consultation from our local kaumatua and kuia, together with our Principal and Eddie Hudson from Westlake girls we had our school name translated into Te Reo Māori. The name which we decided on acknowledges the teacher training aspect of the school ‘normal’ which is ‘whakangungu’ ‘to train’, Intermediate school with ‘Kura Waenga’ -Intermediate School followed by your area Takapuna with ‘o Takapuna’. Therefore a Māori equivalent in a translative form is ‘The Training Intermediate School of Takapuna’ or alternatively ‘ Takapuna Normal Intermediate School. To pull this all together our school name in Māori is Te Kura Waenga Whakangungu o Takapuna.
